Reading Sounds
“Reading Sounds” is a collaborative project with the RMIT Gallery, built on the core concept of accessible design. The project explores how design practices can enhance the participation and understanding of hearing-impaired audiences in contemporary art exhibitions. Using a video artwork as the case study, its audio narration was translated into written text and layout design, resulting in a reading booklet. Through this transformation from sound to visual form, audiences are able to grasp the narrative and atmosphere of the work even in the absence of sound. The project not only highlights the role of design in cross-media communication but also underscores the importance of accessibility and inclusivity within the context of contemporary design.
